About The Taxi Driving Test

The Taxi driving test last for around 40 minutes and you will be driving on a wide range of roads and driving conditions. To pass the taxi driving test you must accumulate no more than 9 driving faults and commit no serious or dangerous faults. You are required to driving at a higher level to that of a learner driver.

What The Taxi Driving Test Includes

The taxi driving test could include an emergency stop exercise and a reversing exercise of the examiners choice. You may be asked to demonstrate one of the following:

• Turn in the road

• Reverse to the left or right

• Reverse parallel park

In addition you may be asked to turn the vehicle around safely using a method of your choice. A u-turn manoeuvre is permitted if your vehicle is suitable or you can use any other suitable method. You must show good all round observations and good vehicle control whichever method you choose to turn the vehicle around.

You will be asked by the driving test examiner to pull up in a safe place many times to simulate picking up and dropping off a client.You must ensure good safe method of pulling up & moving off are demonstrated with this exercise.

The Eyesight Check

At the start of the taxi driving test you will be asked to read a number plate from the distance below:

• 20.5 metres (Old style number plate)

• 20 metres (New style number plate)

You may use the aid of glasses or contact lenses if you wear them. If you fail the Eyesight test the driving test will be terminated at this point and you are likely to lose you test fee.

The Taxi Driving Test Vehicle

You must provide a suitable vehicle for the taxi driving test which is roadworthy and in ood working order. You will also need to bring a auxilary interior driving mirror for the driving test examiner to use in order for them to check behind during the driving test.

Highway Code Questions & Cablogy Questions

You maybe required to answer highway code questions such as identifying road signs and markings. Cabology questions may also be asked on basic taxi & private hire proper procedures.
